Alabama Center Landon Dickerson Named Rimington Trophy Winner

The Rimington Trophy Committee is pleased to add Dickerson to its storied list of outstanding collegiate centers

New York, NY – January 7, 2021 

Landon Dickerson, Alabama center, was named the Rimington Trophy winner tonight at the The Home Depot College Football Awards.

After receiving the news, he said, “I am truly honored to be named the winner of the Rimington Trophy, and I want to congratulate Tyler Linderbaum and Josh Myers on outstanding seasons. My two seasons in Tuscaloosa have been unbelievably special and now to have my name associated with Dave Rimington is an honor and a privilege.”

Making a name for himself over his career, Landon Dickerson has been added to the long list of dominant centers in Alabama history and may arguably be the best interior lineman in college football in 2020. He was named unanimous first team All-American, earning All-SEC honors from both the Associated Press and league coaches and was named the co-recipient of the SEC Jacobs Blocking Trophy with teammate Alex Leatherwood.

The fifth-year senior is a veteran for the Crimson Tide with 24 starts and led his 2020 offensive line to win the Joe Moore Award during his second season as the starting center. Under his leadership, the Alabama front has surrendered just nine sacks while quarterback Mac Jones has been on the field (.75 per game, which would be sixth nationally).

Head Coach Nick Saban affirmed, “The Rimington Trophy could not have selected a more deserving winner. Landon has a great personality and plays with a lot of toughness. He is someone who has made a tremendous impact on our team in a very positive way relative to his outstanding play on the field and his tremendous example of leadership. He’s a very smart football player who made our line calls and helped the guys around him player better.”

Notably, Pro Football Focus ranked Dickerson as the top-rated run-blocking center with a grade of 92.8 while ranking number 2 among centers in the FBS with an overall offensive grade of 91.5 entering the College Football Playoff Championship. He also had PFF’s highest WAR (wins Above Replacement) rating of any offensive lineman in college football this year.
